1.Flooding continues to wreak havoc across Pakistan as heavy monsoon rains persist, with over 700 confirmed deaths reported since late June 2025. The situation is particularly dire in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where authorities have declared a state of emergency in nine districts after torrential downpours between August 15th and 19th caused widespread destruction, killing 368 people and damaging over 1,300 homes. The death toll in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reached 425 as of August 19th.
2.Other provinces, including Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan, have also experienced significant flooding. Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, was inundated on August 19th due to heavy rains, resulting in at least six fatalities from collapsing walls and electrocutions. Flooding along the Indus and Chenab rivers in Punjab has displaced thousands of families and damaged crops across vast areas. In Gilgit-Baltistan, mountain communities are grappling with the aftermath of glacial floods, with 45 fatalities and nearly 1,000 homes affected.
3.The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported a total of 739 deaths and 978 injuries across the country as of August 21st. Thousands have been displaced, and homes and crops have been destroyed. The severity of this year's monsoon season is estimated to be significantly higher than last year's.
